About Us

Welcome To Would Wood Work

Our Story

I was first introduced to woodworking at an early age. Growing up with just my mom, an older sister, and a younger brother in the house, I took on the “man of the house” role early on. I would build bookshelves we would purchase from the furniture store and put together tables/chairs my mom would buy. But it wasn’t until 2019, when my girlfriend and I purchased our townhome, that I realized how much I enjoyed building stuff. It didn’t matter what it was; I just enjoyed working with my hands.

More About Me

I was always entrepreneurially spirited. I started a clothing brand that turned into a small concert promotions company. I tried to kick start a college excursion business while in college with some friends but that was short-lived. I then found an interest in trading forex; this is where I started to find success as an entrepreneur because when you are good at trading, you make money simple as that. This allowed me to take my profits to start buying tool so that I could do custom work in my home. I had a day job at this time but I primarily worked from home so I had a TON of free time to do “other things.” During this time, woodworking/carpentry work was only a hobby to me, simply because I had my 9-5 and I traded so I didn’t really see a need to switch it up. I was “comfortable.’

Fast forward to 2020 COVID happened. I started to loose interest in my regular job because things began to shut down. Not only did I work from home alone, I couldn’t go to the gym or do normal things that would be me sane. Psychologically I began to fall into a weird state where I just didn’t have the motivation to do much beside trade and build things. There were times when I didn’t even want to do that but I’d force myself into doing those things. So that’s what I did, I wouldn’t recommend anyone to put their day job to the side to work on other stuff because that could lead to you loosing your job but I had a flexible job that allowed me to do this.

In 2019, my girlfriend and I saved up enough money to put down on a home. We found a beautiful townhome in Kennesaw, GA. Due to how quick homes go up in Georgia there’s a lot of details that the builders miss. This was probably my golden opportunity in life. My first project was a window seat near a bay window that had an empty area underneath it. Then we decided it would be a good idea to build a dinning table, I thought it was a great idea so I took on the project. We stumble across a river table styled dinning table and I knew that was the one. It took 2 1/2 months to complete due to obstacles and first time mistakes but I ended up finishing it. This led to me wanting to build more. I built a floor lamp shortly after then our living built-ins followed by our cedar porch furniture.

At this point some of my neighbors began to notice how much I was building so one of them asked if I could give her a quote on a window seat/cabinet built-it. I sketched up a drawing of what it would look like and gave her a price that she agreed to. I completed the project and that led to another neighbor commissioning me for a project. At this time I realized I stumbled onto a business idea that had potential to grow beyond what I could imagine. I didn’t know where to start or how to go about it but my girlfriend was a ton of support and gave me an idea. She told me to book two months out and If I could do that to put my two weeks in at my regular 9-5.

It took only three months to accomplish this and on the 3rd day of March, 2021 I submitted my two weeks to my boss. It was so hard to do because I was complacent. I had a great paying job, insurance, benefits but overall I was comfortable. It took me a week to just press send and after having a few emotional calls with me girlfriend, mom and childhood best friend I did it. What I did next was probably the most important part of the story. I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror at myself for a solid 3-5 minutes and didn’t say a word. I then opened my mouth and my exact words were “I truly believe in myself.” Prior to that I’d say that to myself but I really didn’t mean it, I always had doubt in my mind about what I could do or my limitations. When I said that on March 3rd, I knew exactly who I was, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and I knew exactly what would come from all of this.

Would Wood Work is a hybrid company. Our core focus is carpentry work but we also do wood working. For those who are unaware carpentry and wood working are two different styles of building. Carpenters are known as jack of all trades, they can build a desk, paint your walls, build a closet, etc. Wood workers tend to work in a wood shop, they have a set of tools that allow them to build whatever it is they advertise. At the moment carpentry work is in high demand for our business so we focus on that. It’s been pretty smooth sailing so far. We focus on communication, details and delivering a product someone new moving into that home would a appreciate. We believe a quality product speaks for itself so customers are willing to pay for our service. These values have landed us countless of new opportunities. We specialize in building bookshelves, window seats, and doing these cool custom modern wainscot accent walls also known as “geometric wood trim accent walls.” Our company began to receive a lot of attention on TIK TOK from our modern wainscot accent walls, because these build outs are easy and quick for us they are also affordable to our clients and they love the look it gives their homes at the end.

Our values sets us apart from other wood workers/carpenters. I believe a project is finished only when we believe it is something we’d have in our homes and be happy to wake up/go to sleep to. We are never satisfied with half done results and our customers know that.

I’m so proud that we were able to develop a footprint in the social media space via instagram and tik tok. In a short time we were able to grow our tik tok following to 175k followers in less than a year. This is due to us believing in our brand and the people see that. We plan to draw more focus on the wood working side of the business. We currently build custom cutting boards for realtors to give as closing gifts to their customers. We also provide all of our customers the same service and product at an affordable rate. Our goal by the end of the year is to focus more on building custom furniture such as river tables, coffee tables, end tables, and dressers.

Just some advice for all those new service based businesses out there find a good advertising tool to get your business in front of people. Don’t worry about the coolest logo or he catchiest name, those things will come with time. The most important part of business is getting your name out there and driving new business. If you cant bring in new business, people wont see your work which directly impacts how long you can do what it is you do.

I used Thumbtack, this was an excellent advertising tool in the beginning before I had any outside clients. Most of my business was referrals but I knew that would only go as far as my network. Thumbtack landed me paying customers who did not know me on a personal level so I didn’t have to overcome the “homie discount.”

That’s another thing, if you have a set price for your services stick to it. It doesn’t matter if its your brother, your best friend or mom. They should treat your business as they would Target or Apple or Best Buy. They should pay what you are asking, not a penny less. Also be ok with telling people no, if you know a project doesn’t not fit in your scope of work its ok to tell people that. There’s nothing worse than saying you can do something then falling short in the customers eyes. But if its something you want to try tell the customer this is my first time doing this but I have an understanding for the scope of work.

But I’ll leave this here, life is short, the fastest way to the grave is living a life with no excitement. Get up and go be what you’ve always wanted to be…

Would Wood Work did an amazing job renovating my closet. They really brought my vision to life. They were very great communicators even before the process of building began. They answered all my questions and were very straight forward before I even decided to work with them and always responded back to me quickly.

I had the best experience with Would Wood Work. I had an empty wall in my laundry room and they built me the most perfect set of modern floor to ceiling cabinets for so much extra storage. They are beyond professional and so creative. Pricing was reasonable and they installed in the time frame they initially quoted. Will absolutely use again.

I am extremely happy with how my accent wall turned out! Samantha and Anil were great from start to finish, very communicative, punctual, and I enjoyed having them in my house for the week! There were no surprises with costs, etc and they paid great attention to detail to ensure other furniture, floors and walls were protected while the work was done. I get so many comments on my diamond wall, I couldn’t be happier!
